A Tale of Two Sisters

These two gorgeous girls are my step daughters. It has been my pleasure to document them since they were 12 and 13 years old. It's hard to believe they are all grown up now. They are not getting married, but we thought it would be fun to create a styled shoot. Steal this fun DIY PROJECT! These bouquets were created with flowers from Central Market. After I made these bouquets I read an interesting article by the Wedding Channel that mentioned how one of the new trends for 2012 is bouquets with "texture". Who knew? I just wanted to do somethine unusual and fun! I love the combination of purple kale, fake carnations, and white stock. The ribbon we used was from Hobby Lobby. Then we finished it off with multi colored pearl head pins. The wedding gowns were generously provided by bridal shop Pence and Panache in Burleson.

FUMC Dallas and Tower Club, Susie and Derek

Susie and Derek were married at the First United Methodist Church in Dallas on Saturday November 5th, 2011. This church is such a lovely venue located in the heart of the arts district in downtown Dallas. I love the contrast of this historic church next to the modern high rise buildings of the area. The flowers provided by Dr. Delphinium were a gorgeous white and heather grey. Susie and Derek's reception followed the ceremony at the Tower Club overlooking the downtown skyline. They rocked the night away with a live band provided by Party Time and hosted by MC Bill Cody.
The wedding cake created by Frosted art Bakery was a custom design that was fashioned to match the flower arrangements.

Castle Hills Golf Club, Shayna and Devon

Shayna and Devon were married at Castle Hill Golf Club on October 29th, 2011. They had a lovely outdoor Jewish Ceremony under a beautiful chuppah made of Aspen branches. Shayna looked amazing in her gown from Circle Park Bridal in Addison. The ceremony included the traditional circling of the groom 7 times, the drinking of the kiddish cup, the breaking of the glass, and the katubah signing (the Jewish marriage contract). Devon's mom is a cake designer and made the most amazing wedding cake that matched the design of Shayna's dress. The groom's cake was a guitar that looked so real you would think you could play it. Shayna being a ZTA from UT Arlington had many of her ZTA sisters in the wedding and wedding party. I have had the pleasure of working with some fabulous ZTA brides. The rockin' reception followed with entertainment by DJ Todd Payne from Party Time. It was good times.

Fort Worth Zoo, Nichole and Damon

Nichole and Damon were married at a masquerade ceremony at the Fort Worth Zoo on October 15th, 2011. I have never done a wedding like this, nor do I think I ever will again. It was so different and so fun. There were minions, flowers dudes, owls, penguins, giant African dogs, bouncing bat favors, four custom made dragon cakes, and a flying shark. That's right. I said flying shark. Their wedding was truly a blast! The bride did more diy projects than I have ever seen at a wedding. Not only did she make all the bouquets and boutonnieres out of thousands of tiny beads, she made her dress, the wedding party outfits, the cake, and more. Nichole and Damon's wedding was non-traditional and absolutely fabulous! Only the photos can tell the full story.

Granbury Texas Wine Theme, Christina and Lonnie

Christina and Lonnie were married at their home on October 8th, 2011. They had a lovely backyard wine themed wedding. This particular day was unusual weather since we have had very little rain in Texas this year. Well I guess mother nature was saving it all up for this one day. Thank goodness they got through most of the formalities before the storm unleashed it's fury on the event. This was the heaviest rain storm in over 6 months. But you know what they say about rain on your wedding. Regardless of the weather, no one was going to rain on their parade. Christina and Lonnie still had an amazing time and were so happy to be married to their best friend.

Ashley and Sam were married October 1st, 2011 at St. Ann's Catholic Parich in Coppell, Texas. They had a safari themed wedding to die for. An amazing full Catholic mass in a stunningly beautiful church. The ceremony included a rosary lasso, communion, and the offering of roses to the Virgin Mary. The lively reception followed at the Hilton Garden Inn, Lewisville, Texas.

Whenever I am shooting a portrait, I like to use as many locations as I can so I can give the client lots of variety. Plus it's just fun! Susie's bridals were taken in 3 locations. First at the water gardens, next at the Fort Worth main post office, and last at the old Methodist Church that now sits as an empty shell. What a gorgeous bride!

Awhile back a fellow photographer mentioned this idea to me that I thought was genious! I knew I wanted to implement it as soon as possible and offer it to all of my bride's. Ashley and Daniel get hitched!

Ashley and Daniel were married on July 9th, 2011. These two were so precious! They met in high school and have been together ever since. They even got married at the same church as Daniel's parent's. Well almost...they were married at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church in downtown Wylie, but his parent's were married at the little chapel in front of the new church. Too cute! I decided I had to take a few photos of his parent's in front of the chapel to honor their union there as well.

Not to mention her adorable gown with pockets and an antique broach, and the custom cake toppers made to look just like them! So fun!

It was very interesting working with a bride with the same name as me. There are not many Amber's out there so we are not used to meeting other Amber's. I would laugh to myself when I would call her and say, "Hey Amber! It's Amber!".
Anyways, we had a great time taking her bridal portraits both in the Stockyards and in the studio. Amber's dress was really different and it fit her so perfectly. One of the great things about bridal portraits is you get to see how you are going to look. And they are so fun to do. Check out this little video of Amber's bridal session.

Amber and Matt were kind of an eclectic couple with a variety of interests. Matt coaches kids football and is a UT grad so we knew we had to incorporate the sports element into their photos. They both love art so we started in the Dallas Arts District at Nasher, then the Modern, and then FIG. Then we mosied on over to Deep Ellum to find some cool murals to work with. Gotta love murals! Then we found a little park where they tossed a football around and had fun goofing off and pretend tackling each other. Fun times! Watch...

The wind was really blowing hard that day. We had a challenging time finding an escape from the wind, but managed to work it out. Then we continued our shoot in and around the Dallas Arts District which I love. These two were so natural and totally in love. It was a joy to work with them.

Jim and Chandra's Wedding

Can I just say that I LOVE Catholic weddings!!! Jim and Chandra were married on May 22nd, 2010 at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Keller, Texas. I love this church and have worked there before. This was such a meticulously planned event. Chandra and her bridesmaids started the day with hair and make-up at the Renata Day Spa in Grapevine which included a lovely lunch for all. Jim and his groomsmen prepared for the day at the church. The full mass ceremony was absolutely breathtaking in this amazing venue with the blue and gold domed ceiling. Following the ceremony I accompanied the wedding party to the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens where we documented additional post wedding photos. This extra hour of time after the ceremony allowed us to get in lots of extra time to be creative and have fun. The reception followed at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth and could not have been a more beautiful day. Congrats to Jim and Chandra!

Wild Wild Wedding Season

Album Design - How does it work?

When we design your wedding album, it is one of a kind. Just like your wedding. We never use templates to design your album. Every page is custom designed to match your wedding theme and colors. In order to turn your design around in a timely manner, we select the images and layout a sample design for you. If there are images you that you know are a must have for the album, we always welcome your input. But for most people, the task of choosing all the images for your album is too overwhelming, and we don't want you to work that hard. So we take care of that for you. Once the sample design is complete, you can review it online like the rest of your images. Then you are given up to 3 complimentary image changes. Once we get it just the way you like it, then it goes to print. Once your album is ordered, it normally takes 3-4 weeks to receive it. A memorial

Usually I am busy participating in the happiest days of ones life. But on March 30th 2010, I had the rare and honored opportunity to document one of the saddest days of many lives. The funeral and memorial service of a Mr. Joseph Carl Briggs Jr. Videographers are usually called upon to cover an event such as this, so I've been told. But the Briggs family had specially requested a still photographer to remember this day and I was lucky enough to be "the one".

The weekend before, I flew to Portland Oregon to visit my Great, Great Aunt in the hospital who died just hours after I arrived to see her. Then my Great Uncle was also sick with stage four lung cancer across town. Then I was called to document this funeral when I returned home. All this happening at the same moment was almost surreal.

In many ways, it was similar to photographing a wedding in the sense that everything is playing out in front of you. But more than anything else, it's about the emotion of the day. How each person was feeling in that moment, and how it makes the viewer feel. And how we will remember that day forever and ever.

It's a fate we all share. The passing from this life to the next. And I'm sure my own family drama made me even more sensitive to the way I covered this event. But it's a reminder to us all that life is short, but love is great. So spread it around while you are still here.

Normally, I just post images with minimal dialog simply because I don't have a lot of time to write, and I am not a writer. But I have to write about Tammy and Ian because they were so different and so much fun, I had to tell their story. So, both of them had been married before and the big traditional wedding was just not their thing, so they went the JP. They invited only their closest family, dressed up, and had beautiful flowers. It was so intimate, very emotional and sweet. When you are in a small room like that you can really feel the love.

The next day they threw a party for all their friends and family at a most unusual place. A little history, Ian (the groom) is a video game designer. So they chose this super cool place in Dallas called Barcadia to have their reception. It's this laid back vintage style bar with old school video games like Pac-man and Galaga. on top of all that they have these HUGE Jenga game blocks on the patio that are totally crazy. So totally cool. The music was 80's. The food was killer. And the wedding cake was an Atari Game Player straight out of my youth. LOVE IT! Oh, and the party favors were these awesome mint tins in the shape of all the Pac-man characters. Needless to say, it was super fun and no less meaningful or important than any other wedding I have ever done. I know Tammy and Ian will be together forever. Much love to them both.

Alyse and Edmund were married June 27th, 2009 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Their wedding was a delightful blend of Irish and American culture.

The preparation began at the Historic Adolphus Hotel in downtown Dallas where Alyse and her bridal party relaxed in the Penthouse suite. Alyse wore a very unusual but stunning vintage style gown from Warren Bridal. Edmund wore some cool blue suede shoes with his tuxedo.

The beautiful full mass ceremony took place at 2pm and followed by a cocktail party at the Rodeo Bar annd Grill at the Adolphus with lots of Heineken and peanuts. The reception followed at 7pm at the Dallas Arboretum. The party continued late into the night. Those Irish really know how to party.

Alyse and Edmund honeymooned in romantic Hawaii and now reside together in Dublin.

Laura and Matt

Laura and Matt Moore were married June 20th, 2009 at the Historic YWCA in downtown Fort Worth. The young couple exchanged gifts and personal notes to each other before the ceremony. Laura had to take a deep breath to keep from crying after reading her note from Matt. Matt was overjoyed by his gift of a book on the Sacred Marriage and a pair of SuperSized boxer shorts. Very funny! The two were married in front of a full house where Laura was walked down the aisle by here dear Grandfather. They exchanged their rings and vows and joined together to light the unity candle.

The ceremony followed with lots and lots of sweet treats to eat. Instead of dinner, they had a large assortment of desserts for their guests. The sugar rush ensued and the dancing got a little wild when "Thriller" came on. Several of the guests knew the dance pretty well, and if you didn't you could follow along. It was very entertaining. After the sugar rush wore off the couple were whisked away in a shower of bubbles and a town car to Mexico for their honeymoon. As I turned to see the crowd wave goodbye, Laura's mom broke out in tears as her baby drove away. It was very touching and sweet. When I returned to the entrance of the YWCA, I noticed Cinderella had left her shoes. I guess her feet needed a rest. lol!
